Meatballs

Wednesday, the middle of the week. Get your "sierra" and start sawing to cut the week in half.

In the eighties, Wednesday afternoon meant that you had the whole afternoon to play and to have fun. We´ll all remember what we did back then, stuff we listened etcetera.

There is a famous dutch supermarket slogan; Woensdag gehaktdag. explanatory link in Dutch
So, the slogan exists since 1949...
Anyway, back to the 80´s, then the meatballs were always big, a little bit bigger than a tennisball. With the famous Kruidenmix van Silvo, my mother prepared them.
BRB.

.. Been selecting this Grateful Dead song from the Skeletons in the Closet album. Haven´t got the Mexicali blues, but maybe meatball blues??
The meatballs are much more difficult to prepare than a simple hamburger. A hamburger is meat with stuff on top. A meatball is blended with spices, garlic, picante and other secret ingredients.

Sunday is also a meatball day, at least in the soccer team I played for in the Netherlands. Sunday routine then: get up at eight, be at the cantina at nine AM, and after the match a few pints of beer with the meatball.

When I left the Netherlands, and feared that there was only paella and gazpacho in Spain (two dishes I like a lot, except the gambas and other marisco) I found out that meatballs are called albondigas here. Albóndiga, according to Real Academia Española, derived from hisp. arabic - classic arabic, and the arabs derived it from greek ποντικόν

In the period I worked for a logistics company at the ZAL in Barcelona, I used to bring the meatballs and then my amigo and catalan teacher Tomás explained me that they are called mandonguilles in Catalonia.

My sweet Yina and also my mother in law prepare them nowadays.  Bon profit everybody.
